SAIL Student Position Job Descriptions

Building Manager

Responsible for event setups, assisting building patrons, building security, and maintaining the day-to-day operations at HIG. Building managers also act as supervisors for other areas of the building. Some tasks include lifting and set-up of event and technical equipment, handling money from the information desk and game room, opening and closing HIG, and answering questions and accommodating HIG guests or event speakers. Upperclassmen preferred. Shifts are usually about 3 hours or more.

Information Desk Assistant

Responsible for handling calls and requests for information about HIG and UNCA; directing and assisting building patrons; maintaining lost-and found, and ticket sales. Assistant must be able to give directions and information in a professional and courteous manner, have a general knowledge about UNCA, and also be able to locate specific information for inquiries. Shifts are usually 2 or 3 hours.

Game Room Assistant

Responsible for supervising the game room, handling money and game room equipment, and promoting a fun recreational environment for game room customers. May run tournaments as requested. Assistant must be assertive and maintain control of a safe and respectful environment among patrons. Shifts are usually 2 or 3 hours.

Operations/Tech Assistant

Responsible for setting up and breaking down large events in HIG including chairs, tables, or dance floor.  Set up video projectors and laptops for presentations or DVD video use. Set up and run PA systems with microphones and mix for larger music productions. Assistant also responsible for cleanliness of event rooms and building. Including wiping down tables, trash removal if needed or vacuuming, sweeping, mopping. Some work outside of HU is possible.  Shifts vary.

Recycling Coordinator

To monitor all recycling in Highsmith Union.  Empty and sort bins as needed; assist the building users with understanding recycling and sustainability, help coordinate pick up of building recycling with Facilities Management, coordinate to prepare the recycling; coordinate with Facilities Management for semesterly Waste Audits; develop signage, if necessary; work with our Lost & Found to get rid of older items to local charities.

Computer Lounge Assistant

Maintaining safe and secure environment for users; Check for student OneCards; Enforce all rules concerning the use of computer lounge and building; Assist students with troubleshooting both software and hardware in computer lounge; Printer assistance and upkeep; Keep lounge and equipment clean; General PC maintenance as needed; Filling out logs and reports, as needed; Check out and check-in of iPads; Performs other related duties as assigned
